See Your Veterinarian
Your veterinarian evaluates your pet and determines whether medication is appropriate, including the medication, strength, dose, and directions.
Veterinary Prescriptions • Pet Medications
Your pet's prescription does not always have to be filled at the veterinary clinic. ABC Drugs fills eligible veterinary prescriptions for dogs, cats, and small pets.
Bring us a valid prescription from your veterinarian, or ask your veterinarian to send it directly to our pharmacy. Our team can fill eligible pet medications, explain the prescription directions, answer medication questions, and help make managing your pet's prescription easier.
Getting Started
Filling a veterinary prescription at ABC Drugs starts with a valid prescription from your pet's veterinarian.
Your veterinarian evaluates your pet and determines whether medication is appropriate, including the medication, strength, dose, and directions.
Bring us the written veterinary prescription, or have your veterinarian send the prescription directly to ABC Drugs by phone or fax.
Our pharmacy team reviews the prescription and determines whether the prescribed medication can be filled through ABC Drugs.
Once the prescription is ready, you can pick it up at the pharmacy or ask whether the eligible prescription can be included in our free local delivery service.
Pet Medications
Veterinarians sometimes prescribe medications that are also dispensed through community pharmacies. When a veterinarian prescribes an eligible medication for your pet, ABC Drugs may be able to fill the prescription.
Eligible antibiotic prescriptions may be filled when prescribed by your veterinarian for your pet.
Some thyroid medications used in veterinary care are medications that community pharmacies can also dispense.
ABC Drugs may be able to fill eligible heart medications when prescribed specifically for your pet.
Certain prescribed pain-management medications may be available through the pharmacy when appropriate and legally eligible to be dispensed.
Every pet prescription is different. Medication availability and dispensing requirements depend on the specific prescription. Contact ABC Drugs if you want to confirm whether we can fill your pet's medication.
Medication Support
Pet medications can come with unfamiliar directions, strengths, schedules, or administration instructions. Our pharmacy team can review the prescription directions provided by your veterinarian and help you understand how the medication is intended to be given.
Your veterinarian determines your pet's treatment. ABC Drugs dispenses the medication according to the valid veterinary prescription and does not diagnose animals or independently determine veterinary doses.
Switching Pharmacies
If your pet has an eligible prescription at another pharmacy, ABC Drugs may be able to help coordinate the transfer.
Prescription transfer eligibility depends on the medication, prescription status, applicable requirements, and whether refills remain. If a new prescription is required, your veterinarian may need to provide one.
Our regular Prescription Transfer service explains how ABC Drugs helps coordinate eligible prescription transfers.
Don't have everything available? Call our pharmacy team and we'll tell you what information may be needed.
Specialty Prescriptions
Some veterinary prescriptions require a special dosage form, strength, or flavor that is not available as a standard manufactured medication.
ABC Drugs does not compound medications in the pharmacy. For certain eligible prescriptions, however, specialty compounded medications or alternative dosage forms may be obtained through licensed compounding partners.
Because these prescriptions may need to be specially prepared or ordered, they can require additional time. Availability depends on the individual prescription.
Important: Any compounded medication still requires an appropriate valid prescription from your veterinarian. Contact our pharmacy team to ask whether an option is available for the prescribed medication.
Prescription Pricing
If your veterinarian has prescribed a medication that can be filled at a community pharmacy, you can contact ABC Drugs and ask about the pharmacy price before deciding where to fill the prescription.
Pricing depends on the medication, strength, quantity, dosage form, availability, and other factors. We do not guarantee that the pharmacy price will be lower than the veterinary clinic's price, but our team can provide available pricing information so you can compare your options.
Related Service
Making a separate pharmacy trip can be inconvenient, especially when you're already caring for a sick or recovering pet. Eligible pet prescriptions may be included in ABC Drugs' free same-day local prescription delivery service.
ABC Drugs is a community pharmacy, not a veterinary clinic. We cannot diagnose your pet, prescribe medication, change your veterinarian's prescribed dose, or dispense prescription medication for an animal without a valid veterinary prescription.
ABC Drugs does not stock vaccines or products licensed only for veterinary use. We also do not perform compounding onsite. Certain eligible compounded prescriptions may be available through licensed compounding partners.
